§ 10-172. Adoption procedures.

  • The animal control division shall have the final approval for the adoption and release of any animal in its custody. At its discretion, the animal control division may refuse an adoption if it is determined that the adoption is not in the best interest of the animal or the health, safety, and general welfare of the public. Factors to be considered may include, but are not limited to the following:

    (1)

    Property and/or lease restrictions;

    (2)

    Previous reported animal offenses or citations;

    (3)

    Failure to fulfill requirements of previous animal adoptions;

    (4)

    Number of animals presently owned;

    (5)

    Conditions under which animals are to be housed;

    (6)

    Disposition/temperament of animal to be adopted;

    (7)

    Observations and determination of animal control officer.
